Do you agree with her punishment? Do you think having a troubled childhood should get her a lesser sentence? Would you agree with the same sentence if it was an adult committing the crime? What if the adult had the same childhood experience? Why or why not?

No i don't agree with her punishment because they should of just gave the 35 years and five months for killing an innocent child who was harmless and wasn't doing anything at the time. I don't think a troubled childhood should give her a lesser sentence because a troubled childhood shouldn't make you kill someone. If an adult had the same child experience I think they would still be mad but get over it and go on with life.

no , i don't agree with the punishment ! , she should have gotten life ! , she killed an innocent child , and all because of what ? she wanted to see what it felt like , smh . THATS A STUPID EXCUSE ! they should give her life , so that she can sit and rot in jail , and think about what she did ! she didn't even feel guilty , she said in her diary "I don't know how to feel atm. It was ahmazing. As soon as you get over the 'ohmygawd I can't do this' feeling, it's pretty enjoyable. I'm kinda nervous and shaky though right now. Kay, I gotta go to church now...lol." thats not cool -_- . she deserves to rot .

i think the punishment does not fit the crime killing a child is never right and i think this is why so many harmful crimes are occuring these days because people are geting let off easy for these type of crimes and killing a crild should should never be happening

I do agree with her punishment because she's still going to jail for a strenuous amount of time. Having a truobled childhood doesnt make up for commiting the crime because if she was raised by a sane grandmother then she should be fine. Its a double standard because if it was an adult then they would have a stricter sentence. Oh well time for her to go to Norway
I disagree with her punishment i think she should have got life. You dont kill a child because you want to see what it feel like. No!Her having a trouble childhood life she should not have a lesser sentence. I think she deserves to die just like the child did.No i dont agree if you take someone life you should either do life or get your life taken as well i think thats a good enough punishment. If an adult had an childhood experience like that the best thing for that adult is to get some help. Danielle May 1a.
I do think the punishment is appropriate because she has the potential to be in jail for life. If she doesn't show good behavior then she won't be able to get out, but if she shows that she really has learned then she deserves a second chance. I don't think that having a troubled childhood should affect the sentencing because virtually everyone goes through some sort of trouble in their childhood, you just have to deal with it. If the adult committed the crime, with or without the same childhood they would have gotten life because they are supposed to "know better".
I do not agree with her punishment. One she is 18 years old and old enough to make her own decisions. Killing a harmless child. She knew what her intentions was and what she was doing. Whether it was just experimenting or not. Just because of her age she shouldnt be harmed as if it wasent a adolescent. They tried to sugar coat her sentence because OF HER AGE. It isnt fair.
well i think the little girl was doing, but at the same time it is wrong but it was experimenting but she shouldn't never should of done it. jamal hailey
No,I do not agree with her punishment. I think she serve life without parole. I would yes however it was though out and she did it for pleasure.Yes because under the law everyone is treated the same so she should charge like an adult with a trouble childhood. I think that that should look at the under lined problem. They should test her for any mental illnesses

I do not agree with her punishment. They should have gave her more time in prison without the chance of parole because she is an adult and should be charged just like anybody else who commits a crime. A troubled childhood has nothing to do with how you carry out your actions. You have to be one crazy person to just demolish someone like that and think that it is ok.
This girl is retarded I do agree with her sentence. She could've klled a rabbit or something. It is not fair that she can just experiment with peoples lives like she does.I personally want to slap the LIVING $h** out of her.She digusts me, they should just give her the death penalty stupid old child got dammit. What is going on in the world thats just like me saying hmmmm I wonder what it would smell like to pour gasoline on McDonalds and the employees and light a match. She is a crazy physcho witch doctor.
I think she deserves life in prison if she is a young adult and knows better she shouldnt have killed a child that girl is mentally ill if you had a bad childhood that dosent give you the right to kill a person you have the think about the consequences and were it willmake you end up making your life worst than it already is.

I agree with her life sentencing, she had absolutely no reason to kill that 9-year old girl. I agree with Richardson's statement in the article when he called her "a truly evil individual" there was no explanation for what she did it was pure senseless violence that led to an innocent child's death. This crime had nothing to do with her childhood, she's just deranged.
Yes I think this is right because this is just wrong to kill a young boy like this just to see hows it feel. That means if she gets out she might kill another person for no reason. So I think something is wrong with her and she can't be in the general public. I think that she should go to a safety home were the crazy people be.
According to the document, this teenager was oblivious to what she was doing when it happened,in fact, it seems that she thought she could get away with it. But as soon as it was over and she got fingered, she got all apologetic and sorrowful (though she said it was "ahmazing"). She obviously felt no remorse for this once-9 year old girl, and just put up a front for the family and court system. I agree with her sentence because she DID kill someone...and that's not okay. She also didn't make any attempt to appeal for a lesser sentence, so she kind of accepted her sentence of life without parole.
I Think Her Sentence Was Fair It's Sad That She Killed a Child But The Lady Is Crazy In The Head And Her Having a Crazy Child Hood Should Not Give Her a Shorter Sentence But It Should Be Recoginized By People that She's Seen Bad Things Happen Or Happen To Her That Has Been Carried On Her Head To Her Older Years

i don't agree with her punishment she should have gone to jail for life because no one has the right to take away someones life and having a troubled childhood should not get her a lesser sentence because if she had a troubled childhood then she would know what to do right and not follow the same example no i would not agree if an adult was committing the same crime they should all go to jail for life no matter if they had a troubled childhood either and i believe that the girl is crazy because she said in her diary that "it was amazing" to kill that little girl.

No, I disagree with her punishment because she killed an innocent child and tries to appologize for it. What she did should cost her the rest of her life. She took a life that hasn't truly experienced life itself. Even an apology couldn't possibly bring back that life that she took.

Yes i do agree with the punishmen she has recevied. i believe that she knew what she was doing, I also agree wit her life sentence if it was a adult i also believe having a trouble childhood has nuffin to do wit killing a child. Im glad she got life and dont fell sorry for her cause she didnt feel sorry when she was committing the act so why be sad now.
1. Yes, I agree that her punishment was proper because I think that if you take a life you should have your life taken from you. And technically her life is taken from her because her freedom is restricted.
2. I do not think that her childhood trauma should lessen her sentence, because regardless what you have been through it doesn't give you the right or the "okay", to kill a mortal.
3. Yes, I would agree with the same sentence as the teenager becuase right is right, and wrong is wrong. Even if the adult had the same childhood as Alyssa, I would recommend the same freedom deprivery.
Tarik Smith Jr. A1
I say yes because when you are young you get in trouble. You do thing but if the parent not telling you right from wrong then you want get into trouble when you get older.
This predicament is highly controversial for this girl Bustamante clearly has had mental problems and instability. I do think she should be sentenced for time but not for life seeing how she is aware of her instability. Even going as far as illuminating the situation of the murder. However during her time incarceration she should be under surveillance and her mental condition researched. Before and after release while under more surveillance to provide mental help . If this was an adult I think punishment would be more severe because you know your true mindset and consequences some actions may yield to.
No , i do not agree with her punishment. I feel she should have gotten life. Having a troubled childhood is no kind of excuse. That does not give you the right to take away someone else's life & future. She knew exactly what she was doing. Her parents also knew she was unstable they should have been paying closer attention to her. If a adult committed this crime i would feel the same way i do now. Give them life. They knew their actions were wrong and they should be punished. A bad childhood is NO excuse.
I disagree with her punishment i think she should have got life.it is not right to take someone's life and it is not ur job to determine the end of someone's life.especially a child with little knowledge and guidance.i believe that based on commitment to that crime she plan and did.then she should definately be charged as an adult.
Do you agree with her punishment?
No, I believe she should have gotten the death penalty. She said that she would give up her own life in repentance and our tax dollars would be saved by having one less criminal in jail for life. She should probably be in the criminal insane ward because she killed a child for the thrill of it all.
Do you think having a troubled childhood should get her a lesser sentence?
No, Everyone has their own past and demons but we each have to overcome them. Don't blame your past for your crime, blame your inability to control yourself.
Would you agree with the same sentence if it was an adult committing the crime? What if the adult had the same childhood experience? Why or why not?
No, adult or teenage they shouldn't be killing for thrills. These criminals no matter what age should be sent to a criminal insane ward, because they are sociopaths that don't understand the value of life.
I Think that she diserves a worse sentence. To kill a child? For nothing? Thats crazy I don't care about her childhood I had a bad one to you don't see me killing children. She should be trialed as an adult.

-no i don`t not agree with her charges because she was a baby that didnt do nothing to nobody and she was innocent child just waiting to grow up and live a succesful life. But She lost her life because her mother or realtive wanted to see how it felt to kill somebody . i dont think she had a bad life growing up because if she did she would of abused the child but She should get life and be charged as a Adult.

NO! I dont agree with her punishments. Just because she had a troubled childhood doesNOT Make it okay to take somebody else's life. It would be different if she killed whoever runied her childhood . But then again , its wrong either way .What somebody has been throught doest excuse them from their heartless actions especially towards a 9 year old.

Yes, I agree with her punishment because she was mental and sometime people can not control that i also feel like she is suffering in jail with a life sentence she has no freedom until she's like 65 years old, I think that a trouble child hood should make people wan't do better in life and wan't to get help to overcome the problem that their having at least trying so no she should not get a lesser sentence. If the adult had a mental problem that they could not control yes but if it was for other stupid reasons i think they should have received the death penalty, as I stated earlier i feel like a child hood should make you wan't to do better not repeat the same mistakes as others.

No i do not I agree with her punishment. She gave a pointless excuse which was "she wanted to see how it felt". Also she said she have a trouble childhood so she think she can do that no there's no reason to murder someone else because of your selfish reasons.
I Totally Disagree With Her Sentence Cause Whether You Had A Bad Child Hood Or Not, You Shouldnt Take A Innocent Life Just Beacsue You Wanted To See What It Feels Like. Im Pretty Sure That The Parents Of The Victim Didnt Want To Find Out What It Feels Liek To Miss A Child. I Think That She Should Of Got A Life Sentence.
Yes, I agree with her punishment you can't just go around killing innocent kids because you want to. I believe her childhood shouldn't get her out of anything she made a choice of doing. If it was an adult committing the crime I would give them more time because they could have thought about their actions first. Personally childhood experience shouldn't have anything to do with you killing innocent bystanders.
No I do not agree with this punishment. She killed an innocent child for no apparent reason. She should have gotten life. Even if you had a bad childhood or not that still gives you no right to kill someone. I would feel the same way if it was an adult. She had no right taking someones life.
Do you agree with her punishment?
no. I think she deserved the death penalty cause she took a life for the joy of it.
Do you think having a troubled childhood should get her a lesser sentence?
No, because that can lead to a cycle of people who murder using the same exact excuse.
Would you agree with the same sentence if it was an adult committing the crime? What if the adult had the same childhood experience? Why or why not?
I wouldn't agree with it regardless of age you kill someone you should die or taking that life unless it was self defense. When you kill someone you have to actually sit there and think to get the courage to just do it.

I dont agree with this because she took a innocent childs life. She should have adult charges as of life. you dont go around killing people because you want to see how it feel. Then on top of that she dug whole and burried the child. That is pre- meditated murder. which means she thought about killing the child before she did it. Which gives her the right to have life in jail
Romello Collier 4
I do not at all agree with her punishment because having a troubled childhood should not drop any charges or lower any jail times. This girl was mentally able enough to plan a moment to kill some innocent little girl, so therefore she was mentally able enough to serve a full life sentence. If it was an adult committing the crime I would still have no sympathy, she COMPLETELY sat and thought and had the moment, the time, and the area where she was going to kill this little girl, No I would not agree with it even if they did have childhood similarities.

Yes, i agree with her punishment because that's a good way of paying for a murder. i dont think that her childhood should get her a lesser sentence because she new exactly what she was doing. Yes i would agree with the same sentence if it was an adult that committing the crime because i dont think age matter when someone commite a crime.
Yes I agree with the punishment because the crime was comitted for no reason and it was a child who lived a very short life. I do not think think her childhood should get her a lesser sentence because alot of people go through worst and do not commit crime. Yes the sentence should be the same for an adult because she committed a serious crime no matter what kind of childhood they have been through.
Yes, I think she deserved her punishment. I think her troubled childhood had nothing to do with what she did. I would also agree with this sentence if it were an adultregardless of wether or not thier childhood experience was the same.
Yes I think this is right because this is just wrong to kill a boy for no reason at all. I dont care what you went through in your child hood, that does not give you the right to kill somebody else for no reason at all

I don't agree with her sentence, I think she need the death penalty because she crazy and should of been in a luntic asylum long time ago. It don't matter if she was a troubled child, she need to get life and a punch in the face for not having common sense. If she was a adult, she would still get the death penalty or life if I had the choice to put her in prison. Also just from reading this, you got to watch you back on some people because people do dumb and would kill for no reason at all.
Although, Bustamante was 15 years old at the time of Elizabeth's murder she still was able to understand what was happening and therefore she deserved a worst sentence then what she received.
After the entry Bustamante wrote in her journal, about how it felt to kill the little girl, it was clear that she knew what she was doing and is a sick girl. I think Bustamante childhood do have a lot to do with her killing the little girl but she still deserved to be charged with first-degree murder. If it was an adult committing this crime I think the charge would/should be worst because they are older and wiser even if there childhood past was as bad as Bustamante because they had time to get help and receive therapy for there childhood problems. However, Bustamante should be charged as an adult.
-Jada Young/ 2B
I agree with her punishment but I also think she should of recieved more time in jail. No, because having a troubled childhood shouldnt make u take your anger out on another child, it's life move on and forgive and forget. No I wouldn't agree I think an adult should recieve more time. If the adult had the same experience as an child thin I personally believe that they should have told someone in their past or tell someone now.
Jermaine Taylor 2A
No I do not agree with this punishment because this girl is old enough to know what she is doing and should be responsible and accountable for her actions not only do I not agree with the punishment I think that the punishment should of been more pushed to a higher sentence so she can have a lot of time to think before she comes out and does something that she is going to regret and if she does come back out and does something bad again she should be jailed and hospitalized because there must be something wrong with her mind if she continue to do these non human things and she knows that she is doing it your childhood should not really effect your future unless it was really crucial to a point where that child could have not taken anymore.
I agree with Bustamante's punishment, if I was the judge I'd do the same thing. Even though she was just 15 she still knew what she was doing. Since she knew what she was doing she needs to take full responsibility for her actions. In my opinion having a troubled childhood isn't a get out of jail free card or get a lesser sentence card. Theirs many people who have horrible childhoods but grow up and be successful. This teen has her own mind and with that mind of hers she can make her own decision it's not like someone had a gun to her head forcing her to commit this murder. If she doesn't know whats right from wrong and feels as though it's okay to take someones life just to see how it feels then I think she needs to be in jail. No matter who commits this crime unless their too young to make and understand their decisions I feel as though this punishment should be enforced.
Kevin Washington
I agree with the girls punishment. i think that she was very idiotic for her reason to kill someone be "i wanted to see what it felt like" like langston said she could have killed anything else. I think that regardless of your mental state. you know that killing someone is wrong.
marques 4a
I just feel like there definitely should have been a lesser sentence. I believe in self-accountability but come on, what kind of punishment do her parents get for raising the "evil monster", (dubbed by her own mother). Life imprisonment is very excessive for a teen in this country as well. Also the kid clearly had issues with depression because she was prescribed Prozac when she was only in the EIGHTH GRADE. She shouldn't be in prison because she clearly has mental issues, especially if she wanted to kill a 9-year old MINOR to see how it feels. I think she should be judged as mentally insane if anything.
I don't agree with this because she killed a young child, I wouldn't be more easy on an adult because adults know more so then a child what they are doing. I wouldn't be easy on a adult even if they had the same childhood because your childhood does make your future, you can change at anytime.
Deche Neal
This story in unbelieveable. I completly agree with the sentencing she recivied. Just because, you have a troubled childhood, it dosn't give you the right to take someone else's childhood away. I believe that her parents should have also got a punishment for being an acessory to it. But it still dosn't give her the right to kill a child. If it was an adult committing this crime, I think they should deserve the same sentencing or worse. I think this because, what would be the point of killing a child now?? Why didn't they do it years before now??
Deyonna Butts Pd.3B
My opinion is that I think she said the most terrible excuse to kill a little girl and she should of gotten life because the little girl didn't do any thing at all that is just being ignorent and selfish just because she had a bad childhood it doesn't mean she had to ruinie some random little girl
to me, I would agree with the punishment because she has no right to kill an innocent child 'for the thrill'. Even if they had a troubled childhood, it doesn't mean that the person should get a lesser sentence. With this said, I agree with the same statement even if it were an adult. They have to face the concequences no matter what age.
Do I Agree With The Sentence She Was Given? No Because I Feel Like She Knew What She Was Doing And Just Because You Have Trouble Childhood Doesn't Make What You Did Okay! But Also She Might Be Mad At The World Because Her Mother And Father Was Not In Her Life, So She Feel's That Someone Has To Pay! But That Family Can NOT Get Back Their Daughter! Yes I Would Agree With The Same Sentence If An Adult Even If The Adult Had The Same Childhood!

She does not deserve any mercy. She killed an innocent child,it was completely irrelevant. She deserves the same amount of punishment as anybody else. Im sure if it was an african american person they would have ben on death penalty. So she needs to get treated just like any other murderer.

I do agree with the punishment some what , I think she should go to jail for life without parole. I dont think her childhood should give her a lesser sentence because alot of people go through stuff in there childhood and they dont just go around killing people. I think an adult should get a worst sentence because they been living with childhood all this time, why go off the past now? People just need to get help if there childhood was really that serious. You know if you really have a problem.

I dont agree with the punishment. Just because she is young and had a troubled childhood does not give her the right to kill a innocent child. It was cruel and unfair and anyone who takes someones life deserves a fair punishment and she should had gotten life !

I think they should lesson the penalty, I know she had a bad childhood, but you gotta give her another chance then if she does anything again she can get the what ever's coming to her. But knowing this law day and age there are consequences for refusing to follow orders.
Josh.W 2BIt's very saddening to see children these days so Crupt and twisted I can only imagine how this child would've been tryed if she did have a proper childhood well anyways this shall knowing her mind and how children are probably get it intentionally but I do think the judge may have been a little soft on her trial judgment I think they have should've had a more strict session I just don't understand maybe was something wrong for jury I understand how they pick people for the jury but I don't know...
Yes i agree with the punishment they had given alyssa Bustamante. The reason i agree with this punishment they gave her was because Alyssa Bustamante knew exactly what she was doing when she had did it. At first I would have said "well it was probably the medicine she had been on that caused her to be violent.". Then i realized with in the text it had said "Bustamante had dug a shallow grave in the woods several days in advance, then used her younger sister to lure Elizabeth out of her home with an invitation to play". This indicates the if Alyssa Bustamante knew several days in advance she was going to kill this little girl. She knew at the very moment when she was about to kill the girl what she was about to do was completely wrong , and she could have prevented her actions. Instead she chose to continue this slaying and later wrote in her diary that she enjoyed what she had done to young Elizabeth. So using her childhood as an excuse, is nothing to me at this point. There are people all around the world who has Probably had the same experience of a traumatic childhood, but garentee 9 out of 10 of those people don't decide on killing an Innocent little girl. Now I don't believe Alyssa is evil. I just think she was confused and like she had told police "curious". If alyssa was as evil s people make her out to be Elizabeth would not have been her only victim.

I agree and disagree with her punishment. I agree because she should never have killed just she could get the thrill fom it. And, I disagree because if she gets lifetime for killing someone then all should get lifetime for killing someone. No, i dont think that just because her childhood was bad gives her the right to kill someone she got what she deserved. I think that if you kill someone and you get caught then u are going to jail for at least 35 maybe 45 years. Especially, for multiple killings. Yes, well technically she is an adult isnt she 18. Yes, just like i said before if she kills once and gets lifetime then all who kills once gets lifetime.
No i do not agree with the punishment ,she should of gotten Life in prison with OUT parole, instead of 'life in prison with the possibility of parole.' she killed a young girl for the fun of it. That's crazy . & speaking of crazy, i also belived that she shud got a ''place for the crazy' for the rest of her life if there was choice between 'Jail & there' & i also believe who ever knew she had problems should also be the blame. she should of got treated , put away somewhere if she was that crazy & dangerous. Somebody should of been watching her at all times. There was no reason why this little girl got killed. she should never ever get out of jail. I say this because that is a stupid excuse to say you had a rough childhood, because i have had a rough childhood ,actually pretty similar to hers & you don't see me going around killing people FOR the THRILL.
Moises Vargas-Alba 3B
no, I don't agree with her punishment because she killed a innocent child just to know how it feels i think that was a sick reason. I believe you should spend her time in jail and also go see a counselor about her troubles. I think that if was a adult they should recieve the same kind of punishment as this girl.
Domonique Moore 2a
No i don't agree with her punishment because they should of gave her life for killing a child. Having a troubled child shouldnt get her a lesser sentence because she did the crime so she need to do the time. If it was an adultin this situation she would need to get the same punishment and your childhood shouldnt make you want to be negative to someone else because you experienced it u no how it feel why make a innocent child suffer
no , i don't agree with the punishment ! , she should have gotten life ! , she killed an innocent child , and all because of what ? she wanted to see what it felt like , smdh . This Girl Has Problems She Needs To Go To A pyshco place to get help or something . In my opinion i dont see the point of her taking a life that was not needed to be takin. Its Just horrible.
Eric Datcher Jr. 2B
Life hits you in many ways but it's always the persons decision to be able to overcome it all. Everything about her childhood should of made her a stronger person and willing enough to be a better person because of it. But no, she took the wrong path and now she's perfectly paying for it. To just wake up one morning and say 'I want to kill someone because i wanna know how it feels' is just plain psychotic. I know the girl was mentally ill, but it still doesn't help her out and shouldn't. How could some people be so cruel? An adult or not an adult she still committed the crime, she was responsible enough to prepare everything for the defenseless child's death and therefore should be held responsible to suffer the consequences for her horrid actions.
Yes, I agree with her punishment because the killing was intentional. No, just because she had a troubled childhood shouldn't get her a lesser sentence because she knew what she was doing and she just wanted to see how it felt to kill someone. If it was an adult committing the same crime, they should get the same sentence. Age isn't nothing but a number. Mostly everybody know right from wrong. It is wrong to kill no matter what, and if you do you are going to face serious charges!
Um hello to the no . she needs to be sentenced straight to death so she can meet the devil himself. that's not fair. if that's the case then i should go kill some one and blame my "Troubled Childhood" you make your own choices . what happened in her past is not an excuse for killing a harmless child , that's sick that really just irritated me . she basically just paved the way for all future murderers . when they go to court blame it on their troubled child hood. hahaha she is a fool .
